Rusty Design: A Story 30 Years in the Making
Bob has been around metal his entire career—more than three decades, in fact. It started with cast iron manhole covers, moved onto wrought iron garden décor, and evolved into something uniquely beautiful: Rusty Design.
Rusty Design started as a small business making metal garden art with a unique rustic finish. Customers loved the look, and the pieces became known for their simple beauty and sturdy design.
But things start to change when Bob discovered woodworking as a hobby. Creating tabletops was relaxing, satisfying, even meditative. But table legs? Not so much. Finding the right metal legs was challenging: limited styles, awkward sizes, expensive coatings, and materials that just didn't feel right.
Bob saw an opportunity: Why not leveraging his experience from metal garden decor manufacture to making metal table legs?
Drawing on decades of experience—knowing exactly how metal products are made—he began to design table legs that were visually appealing yet structurally reliable and practical for manufacture.
The response was slow at first, with only a handful of woodworkers around Toronto knowing his business. But everything shifted when Rusty Design went online in 2018. Customers from all over Canada and even from the States discovered his innovative metal leg designs—appreciating the quality, attention to detail, and new designs in every seasonal release.
Today, Rusty Design proudly offers over 300 different styles of metal table legs, adding new designs every season. And now, with our new location in Dallas, Texas (opened in early 2025), we’re bringing Rusty Design closer to our many U.S. customers.
