Vaeven was born in 2017, out of the desire to revive and celebrate the antique overshot coverlet and bring it back into our homes. This historical textile is rooted in Northern European weaving traditions, brought to the New World three hundred years ago by weavers starting a new journey. The weave form represents the spirit of the explorer - resilience, innovation and a desire to honor the past and design for the future.
Vaeven means "the loom" in Danish - an homage to the designer, Laura Chambers', Danish heritage and love for natural fibers, craft and historical weave forms.
Each piece is handwoven by artisans in Peru, using the softest and most sustainably produced baby alpaca available.
