Creo opere d'arte che evocano nostalgia, fanno sentire le persone di nuovo bambini e aggiungono un tocco di colore al mondo.
I create art that evokes nostalgia, makes people feel like kids again, and adds a splash of color to the world.
Da bambino portavo sempre con me un blocco da disegno, insieme a matite, pennarelli, colori e tutto il resto. E la cosa che preferivo disegnare? I cartoni animati, naturalmente. Li amavo così tanto che sognavo di diventare un fumettista per la Disney, la Warner Bros. o la Hanna-Barbera: Bugs Bunny, Paperino, i Flintstones, Braccio di Ferro... mi davano tanta gioia.
Ah, i sogni... vero?
Poi, quando frequentavo le scuole medie, la nostra insegnante di arte ci parlò della Pop Art, con tutte le sue forme e colori vivaci, e mi venne l'idea di fondere la Pop Art con i miei cartoni animati preferiti, riempiendoli di colore.
Ma poi?
Una persona importante nella mia vita (che era anche lei un'artista!) mi disse che la mia arte non era abbastanza valida per intraprendere una carriera professionale: "Devi essere realista riguardo ai tuoi sogni e ricordarti che devi crescere, guadagnarti da vivere, fare soldi e dare il tuo contributo alla società".
Sospiro.
E così ho messo via il mio blocco da disegno. So che può sembrare esagerato, ma è vero. Ho messo via tutto e per i successivi 30 anni e più non mi sono mai più seduto davanti a un blocco da disegno.
Nel dicembre del 2023, tuttavia, ho iniziato un percorso di introspezione e ho cominciato a riconnettermi con la mia "bambina interiore", la parte più giovane di me che (per vari motivi) avevo mandato in esilio nel tentativo di essere più matura, più accettata, più apprezzata... più di ciò che pensavo di dover essere, di ciò che pensavo che tutti si aspettassero da me.
Per me, parte di quella riscoperta ha comportato rispolverare il mio blocco da disegno e così, per Natale di quell'anno, mia moglie, mia figlia e mia madre mi hanno regalato ogni sorta di materiale artistico e ho iniziato a dipingere, dipingere e dipingere.

Più colore!
E poi, dopo un po', ho iniziato a condividere alcune delle mie creazioni online e (con mia grande sorpresa!) qualcuno mi ha contattato chiedendomi di acquistarne una... e questo ha portato ad altri acquisti e persino a richieste di commissioni!

When I was a kid I carried a sketchpad everywhere I went along with my pencils, markers, paints, etc. And my favorite thing to draw? Cartoons, of course. I loved it so much, in fact, that I dreamed of being a cartoonist who worked for Disney or Warner Bros. or Hannah Barbara - Bugs Bunny, Donald Duck, The Flinstones, Popeye … they all brought me so much joy.
Ah, dreams - right?
And then when I was in Junior High our art teacher taught us about Pop Art with all the vibrant shapes and colors and I had this idea to merge Pop Art with my favorite cartoons so that they were splashed with color.
But then?
An important person in my life (who was also an artist!) told me that my art wasn’t good enough to pursue professionally - “you have to be realistic about your dreams and remember you need to grow up and make a living, make money, contribute to society.”
Sigh.
And so I put my sketchpad away. I know that might sound dramatic, but it’s true. I put everything away and for the next 30+ years I never sat down with a sketchpad again.
Back in Decmeber 2023, however, I began doing some inner work and began to reconnect with my “inner child”, the younger part of myself that (for various reasons) I sent into exile in an effort to be more mature, more accepted, more appreciated … more of what I thought I was supposed to be, what I thought everyone expected me to be.
For me, part of that reconnection involved getting out my sketchpad and so for Christmas that year my wife, daughter, and mom bought me all sorts of art supplies and I began painting and painting and painting.
Cartoons!
Color!
More color!
And then after a while I started sharing some of my creations online and (to my surprise!) someone reached out and asked to purchase one … and that led to some more purchases and even commission requests!
