I have used 10 x 100g balls of chunky yarn (5 of each colour) and a size 7mm hook. The blanket works up quite quickly to a size of 36 inches x 50 inches however there are easy instructions on how to increase the size and add extra paw prints.

Still working on this but very happy with it so far! The pattern is pretty straightforward and easy enough to follow, although I do wish something had been done to more easily visually distinguish the alternating colors, like make one bold or something. Obviously hasn't stopped me from making progress though!
