“Shade Plants”

Think Tropical, tree dweller, living in the dappled sunlight through the leaves. Think Orchids, spider plants, philodendron…
Direct sunlight will kill it in a few hours. Place near a protective north wall or in the dappled shade from a tree. Direct sunlight will kill it in a few hours. Beware cold - they do not like the cold , think tropical. When exposed to anything Below 42 degrees and they are in danger.

These plants originated in the Brazilian rain forest. So… you want to reproduce the dappled sunlight a plant that lives in a tree would receive.
80% of the water the plant needs is pulled through the leaves. Well the whole plant is a leaf. Misting or spraying the stems, except when the plants are in bud or flower, both humidifies and cleans the leaves of clogging dust. Resist the urge to over love it --- Moist not wet / Roots Not Rot.
As with any venture, a little research is good if you have not grown an Epiphyllum before.

These are “Shade Plants”

Some Growers joke that these plants are generational as they will last 40 or more years.

Rooting / GROWING Epiphyllum :

In order to bloom, your plant must be old enough. Expect 2-3 years growth and must become pot bound before you will be rewarded. Think of it as - the roots are under pressured the flowers are pushed up and out.

1.Planting - Plant 3 inches deep in a small pot and your cuttings will root quickly. Keep the plant in either partial or indirect sunlight. It can be grown in pot, or in a hanging basket. A blend well-draining soil is a must.

2.Water – It is called a Tropical Cactus so water often and make shore you have good drainage. Think tropical plant not Cactus. Moist not wet / Roots Not Rot.

3.Fertilize – Fertilize lightly once a month. I like to fertilize right after I water, so the fertilized stays in the pot.

4.Leaf litter – always keep a fist full of leaf litter in the pot. It holds the moisture in and creates a more natural environment for the plant. (Think Tropical, tree
dweller)

5.Morning Sun and shade the rest of the day will give best results.

6.Too much sun light: The foliage may get yellowish with red or pink tones. Lower the light exposure if this happens.

Amazing cutting and so big. I loved seeing instructions and even ones on how to get it to flower and the amount of time it’ll take to get to that point. Very impressed! But what I loved most is the sharpie label on the cutting because I suck at remembering to label my plants and that there was a line drawn on it for how deep to plant. Will definitely order again!
