The Mayor of the New Jersey Historic Village is proud to announce the addition to the wonderful collection that honors and celebrated the areas local history. The historic Westfield Presbyterian Church is Westfield's most historic icon and fits perfectly in the collection.
The Presbyterian Church in Westfield, New Jersey was established in 1728, when early settlers built a log house near what is now Benson Place. Today’s Westfield Presbyterian church is the fourth structure in its stoic history. On November 5, 1734 the congregation purchased 40 acres for 20 pounds Stirling and constructed a log cabin for religious gatherings. The cabin was replaced c. 1734-1735 by a second church structure which was located on the opposite corner of Mountain Avenue and East Broad Street.
