Mainbow is a Eurorack video synth module consisting of four function generators and a wavefolding NTSC/PAL video encoder. Hue, saturation, luminance, alpha colour space. Alpha represents transparency over an external video signal. All signalling is LZX compatible 0-1v. It also contains glitch effects and filters for producing music responsive patterns.

Each function generator can produce seven waveforms with phase, frequency, amplitude, and mix modulation. Elaborate patterns emerge when they modulate each other. Function generators output a monochrome video signal in addition to a 0-1v signal.

The module is sold as a DIY kit containing faceplate, circuit board, and components. It uses nothing but large easy-to-solder thru-hole parts.

This is an improved 2.0 version. Improvements: Automatic genlock, higher video stability, both NTSC and PAL are supported on all units, aluminum faceplate, larger panel, nicer knobs, options menu.

This is a module only. It requires a Eurorack case and power supply to operate.

Great video synth with loads of possibilities for making it audio reactive, fully abstract or to manipulate video. I was a bit put out it didn’t arrive with screws or power cable to connect immediately to euro rack system. So I had to wait a few more days before I could even check if it worked. But once it did I was very happy… my questions to the seller where never answered, which is a shame because I wanted to know about how much power it needed or how it could fit into an already existing system. I had to buy a separate power supply because the Mainbow uses a lot! Anyway, once I got it going it was amazing.
