Set a mod mood with this mid century modern copper UFO flying saucer pull down ceiling light from Harmony House, straight from an epic local MCM house estate sale (they tell us it came right off the dining room ceiling)! A bit of online research shows what appears to be this same retractable model offered for sale in the 1959 Sears Fall Winter Catalog on page 981 for $18.95! GORGEOUS design, it features a 15" diameter retractable pendant light with retro metal pinhole top diffuser, atomic side peepholes, and mod patterned glass shade. Can you believe it still has the original red and yellow "Harmony House" and blue and white "UNION MADE" stickers inside the ceiling mount? And, WOW, does that copper shine! What a rare and beautiful find.

LOVE the super shiny "double cake" layer of flying saucer copper on the main fixture paired with the other-worldly elongated bulbous shape of the copper pull-down cord housing that hangs suspended in the air above the UFO like a Mother Ship! Super flashy and eye-catching copper and Eames era design; this is ultra atomic lighting at its BEST, no doubt about it.

Unsure if the pull-down feature is currently working or all pieces for it are there or not, but it did seem to pull apart a bit when we tried it so that seems like a good sign. Evidently, the cord or pulley function on these MCM pull down style lights commonly needs replaced at this stage in their long pre-loved lives, so consider that as you make your important lighting purchase decisions.

Did you notice the repeating atomic rectangular slat peepholes surrounding the main fixture's copper layer that throw light in a stylish and wider swath than the 15" light already does? What great mod style and function all wrapped up into one package!

All major parts of this lamp are a sturdy copper plated metal with the pull down handle being a dark brown plastic that blends in well with the rest of the design. Copper is in very good condition with some tiny overall white paint splatters on the main fixture that may come off with effort (not real noticeable), plus some scratches and aging, and one spot along the circular perimeter where the metal got a bit dented in so isn't a perfect circle anymore (may be fixable - not sure - but not too obvious either). Nothing that detracts from the overall aesthetics of this beautiful MCM treasure!

White glass shade is in great condition and features a totally mod pattern of alternating clear "sun rays" of reverse dots and winding lines that allows the light to shine through more easily in the patterned parts. Paired with the ivory metal pinhole diffuser found at the top of the main fixture, this lamp offers that authentic vintage touch no matter where you decide to stage it. Although we did not open it up to inspect this closely, the lighting fixture inside appears to have slots for three light bulbs (not included), and the Sears ad referenced above seems to indicate this to be true, and also shows that they're likely rated for up to 60 watt light bulbs in each.

We are not experts on these pull down lights and have not had it inspected or tested. Sold as a prop or for aesthetics alone as we do not guarantee functionality on vintage electrical devices. If you wish to use it as a light, you likely will need to have it repaired or add additional pieces/parts to it before using, and we always suggest rewiring vintage lights for safety.
