This is a custom USB controller which features a rotary dial that can be used for scrolling, volume control, or other input. The knob can be pressed to simulate a mouse click, key press, or send a key combination. The knob spins "forever" meaning it does not have a hard stop in either direction (just like a mouse scroll wheel). It has detents for precise control, allowing you to move one "step" at a time.

One of the most popular ways to use it is in a DAW. Just mouse over an on-screen dial and the turn the dial on the S1 to emulate a real-world dial. (This is the mouse scroll wheel/mouse click programming, by default.)

It can also be programmed as a USB MIDI device, and any software that has a "learn MIDI" mode can recognize it. (It works well as a Continuous Controllers device and also has a button that can be pressed.)

The encoder has 20 "clicks" per full turn, which means if you're using MIDI will take 6 1/2 turns to go from 0 to 127.

If you are doing custom software development and in need of a serial device, this can also fulfill those needs, sending serial data of your choosing to a computer.

We'll include a Micro USB Cable as long as we have them in stock. (Most likely it will be a 3 foot cable.)

Customized Programming: We'll need to know what software and what operating system you are using in order to program the controller. For any customized programming requested we'll get in touch with you to confirm exactly what you want. (If you want MIDI control and are not sure what you need we can program the dial to send CC3 and the button to send CC9. This has worked for most people.)

Top notch! The S1 Rotary Controller worked like a charm for my purposes. I use it as a simple MIDI controller for controlling a fader in UA's Console software (using "UA Midi Control"). Little did I know that the S1 also sports a button within the rotary control. I used that as a channel mute. Technical notes (not a criticism whatsoever): 1) The rotary knob is stepped. The feedback is satisfying. In my particular use case, every "step" of the dial results in a .5db increase in fader level. 2) The S1 was a bit picky with USB power levels. I'm using a PC desktop. It worked best plugged directly into a native USB port or to a powered USB hub. It was not happy when using a 6-ft USB cable into a bus-powered USB hub.

I just received my order today. I had a few questions and Pete lived up to the hype. He was very responsive. I love the feel of the S1 and using it to fill in the gaps between my UC1 and US2400 is a dream come true. It works with everything from my Pultec to plug-ins from all manufacturers. I highly recommend this product and will use the S1 rotary controller on every mix down going forward. My only issue/regret is that I had not purchased the S1 sooner. Did it meet my expectations? OH YEAH! Does this feel solid and well made? Yes, it does! Did it match the description? No, IT's FAR BETTER THAN ADVERTISED! I do a lot of mixdowns and I look forward to the next thanks to the S1.

Perfect for Microsoft Flight Sim (MSFS), X-Plane. Especially in VR, Knobs are large and build quality is excellent. I ended up tweaking the code a bit for my use in the OBS and Heading bug. Seller is great in communications and very helpful.
