The french marigold is a beauty all its own. with different shades of amber, and canary yellow it looks quite stunning in a border or landscape but what many people don't know is its a natural pest deterrent.

French Marigold flowers are a popular and a beneficial garden companion because of their potent pesticide-producing root system, and strong aroma to ward off pests. Traditionally it has been known to keep horn worms away from tomatoes plants. Not a good companion for beans.

Marigolds are one of the easiest seeds to grow.

Direct sow planting just below the surface of the soil. Keep soil moist until germination. This plant can also be started 4-6 weeks before the last frost of spring. The seeds germinate around 70° and germination usually occurs in 10 days. Water seedlings occasionally until they become established. Once matured, they will be relatively drought tolerant, but water them during extended dry periods. Pinch back the growing stems to encourage blooms.
