Two old and slightly battered copper tankards with brass handles. At least 100 years old, but probably much older, these tankards were made to be used, not as decoration, the copper was internally lined with tin to prevent the beer from being contaminated by the copper and the bases of the tankards have been weighted to provide extra stability. The brass handles have been riveted to the top rim of the tankard, they are not attached at the bottom, it is simply the weight of the liquid inside that holds the bottom in place. There is a slight variation in size between the two tankards which along with the design leads me to believe they are entirely hand made and therefore very old.
Condition would best be described as "well loved" or bruised and battered if you are feeling less generous. There are quite a few dents and dings, the inner tin coating has darkened and is missing in places and the brass handles are corroding in some areas. On a positive note, these faults are exactly the reason I selected these tankards, they have age, patina and as a result are very beautiful and tactile items.
