The gentlemen who made this table was born in the late 1800s in Germany. He grew up in the Black Forrest where he learned his craft of cabinet and furniture making. He moved to Pennsylvania as a young man and made his living as a true artist.

This farmhouse table is a wonderful example of his craft. The top is two pieces of barn wood which he "keyed" together with 3 wooden keys! (photos 2 & 3) There are absolutely no nails or screws of any kind in this piece. It is all wooden pegged (photo 6) and the two drawers are dovetailed. They open so smoothly!
The entire top comes off when you pull the 4 hand carved pegs out of the sides. The drawer pulls are also hand carved. The maker milled all the wood himself from his property. This table is 50" wide, 25 3/4" deep and 26 1/2". The height from the floor to bottom of drawers is 19 3/4". It isn't tall enough to be a kitchen table. Its a side or occasional table. It is in very good vintage condition with only one back leg with wood scratched off at the bottom and a corner of the top from normal use. I can't say enough about the workmanship on this exceptional piece and the pride in craftsmanship.
