STANDARD NECKLACE LENGTHS FOR ADULTS

14” Fits tightly around the neck. (Advisable to opt for the extender chain to get the exact fit)
16” Sits at the base of the neck (Advisable to opt for the extender chain to get the exact fit)
18” Sits on the collarbone (This is the most common length for men and women)
20” Sits between the collarbone & chest
22” Sits lower between the collarbone & chest


HOW TO MEASURE NECKLACE LENGTH FOR YOURSELF

Measure a similar necklace that falls the way you like. The chain thickness should be similar to the one you are purchasing. If you don’t have a necklace with similar look or fall, you could use a cord of the same thickness.

In front of a mirror, press one end against the nape of your neck. Adjust the other end so that the string falls the way you want your necklace to, and mark where it meets the first end on the back of your neck.

Lay the necklace or cord flat on a surface and measure the length up to the mark. This measurement should be your necklace length.

Consider the style of the necklace, as this affects the length it should be worn to look best on you.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT NECKLACE LENGTH FOR SOMEONE ELSE

The best way to decide is to measure one of their existing necklaces which falls how they like it. As this is not always possible, you may need to make an educated guess at both the style they like and their neck size.

Of course none of this an exact science as we are all different shapes and sizes, so you can always opt for a 2” extender chain to be added, to allow the wearer the option to adjust the fit.

So for example, if you opt for a 16” necklace with 2” extender chain the it can be worn anywhere between 16” to 18”

Bear in mind the most common length for men and women is 18”.
