This project is one that can be completed in a weekend and makes lovely totes to organize Farmers’ Market produce, gift bags to give baked goods to loved ones, or lunch sacks to take to work. That is the job of the bento-inspired bag; it is super simple but super functional. This Japanese-style bag is reminiscent of origami folds and the proper name for a bento bag is azuma bukuro, which roughly translates to “good fortune bag.” The wonderful thing about creating this type of bag is that you only need a square of cloth. This means any size loom will serve you well, as you can weave a square on just about anything. Even a pin loom can be used to create many squares that can be seamed together to make this bag! This project is also a great way to use up scraps and play with color. I chose to use hemp fiber and the colors of summertime heirloom tomatoes to spark some joy in my bento bag.
