ABOUT MY WORK - I am a portrait painter in the "alla prima" style favored by the great portrait artists of the late 19th early 20th century, such as John Singer Sargent, Giovanni Boldini, Anders Zorn, William Merritt Chase, and Joaquin Sorolla. The style emphasizes the brushwork and the painting process as the aesthetic of the work, where the brushwork is both a testament to the hand of the artist and an element in the construction of a realistic image. When done well, the calligraphic and the representational become one. When I see a well-executed brushstroke in a master painting, I get overwhelmed with joy and excitement. My whole focus in painting is to bring that joy and excitement to you the audience of my work.
