Highlights
I painted this piece, "The Wounded Frida Kahlo," originally for San Francisco's Wonderland Gallery who hosted our "Simply Frida Kahlo" tribute show. Within this ink and watercolor painting are a variety of visual metaphors relating to her work and her tortured beautiful life, but I was especially intrigued by her relationship with her hair and how she used it in its various forms as both a statement and to challenge gender roles. When ol’ Diego would cheat on her, she would lop off her hair which he loved so much and depict this act in her work.
