The perfect holiday stocking stuffer, DIY wedding favor, educational craft activity... Or just a fun excuse to get outdoors and enjoy the night sky!
A starfinder (also known as a "planisphere" or "star chart") is a map of a portion of the celestial sphere with a rotating viewfinder to show the location of stars and constellations at any given date and time. These devices are often somewhat plain in appearance — but, as a trained astronomer and lifelong artist, I set out to create a keepsake-quality tool that absolutely anyone could print and use.
This digital kit includes a starfinder template for a version of my Classic design that is 7.5" in diameter -- along with assembly and viewing instructions. It's comprised of three pages in PDF format for ease of use. I suggest printing on a good, sturdy cardstock.
The best part? You can print your own time and time again! Get creative with it! Here are few of my favorite ideas...
✦ Throw a star-themed party
✦ Use glow-in-the-dark printer ink (you can make your own with phosphorescent pigment from any craft store!)
✦ Incorporate into scrapbooks, cards, or other papercrafts
Please note that this starfinder was designed for those living in the northern hemisphere only. It will not accurately depict the sky as viewed from any point south of the equator.
