This intact, original set of 12 botanical art collector's plates is a phenomenal find. These stunning fine bone china floral plates were made in England in conjunction with Franklin Porcelain, The Royal Horticultural Society and produced by Wedgwood during 1977 and 1978. Collectors received a new plate every other month for two years to collect the entire set.
Each plate depicts flowers that could be found blooming during a given month. The original artwork was created by Leslie Greenwood in collaboration with the Royal Horticultural Society.
Whether you choose to display the plate for the current month or place all of them out at once to admire, these botanical illustrations will bring floral beauty into your home that will not wilt but will retain its freshness for the long haul.
These limited edition plates are in near mint vintage condition. The white backgrounds are dazzling white with vibrant colors depicting the botanical subjects with a gilded rim on each plate. Each one has its original fitted foam "box" that slides into a heavy paper sleeve. The January sleeve is torn and the March foam box has a crack, however the rest of the boxes and sleeves are in very good condition.
There is quite a bit of paperwork that comes with this set. There is an introductory letter to the subscriber, stand assembly instructions (no physical stands are included with the set) as well as a booklet giving the history of the Royal Horticultural Society and the artist, Leslie Greenwood in the January plate box. In addition, each plate originally came with a booklet identifying and describing the flowers portrayed for that month. Just over half the months are missing their flower description booklets however (March, April, May, August, October, November and December). February also contains care instructions and July has a notice of delay of the June plate.
Each plate measures about 10 5/8 inches across. The protective foam boxes measure about 11 3/4 inches square and almost 3 3/8 inches thick.
