A very wise philosopher once said that the earth was a woman , the whole of the earths systems were intrinsically connected and balanced . Gaia was the earth she is everywhere she is in the tiniest grain of sand , she is in us , she is life .
How to make a poppet that represents this concept , well in a couple of short words , you can’t . It’s way too huge and powerful and beautiful for an old crafter like me to put into a poppet .
But I have tried to design a poppet that resonates .
Pagans come in all shapes , sizes , sexes and belief preferences . Some feel affinity with certain set belief systems and seem to just know it’s for them whilst others choose to tread a more solitary path . The beauty is we can choose , we are not constrained , we are free to embrace what we feel is right for us .
One thing ,however , links us . We all pulled by our love of nature , the natural world , the planet , the universe . Gaia encompasses everything we believe in . We see growth , life , and rebirth all around us . Even though we live in a busy , bustling world , we take time to STOP and listen and look around us , take in the natural world , it’s changes and wonders . This is the link all pagans have . Our ancestors were deeply entrenched within the earths systems and lived with them . They had respect for the magic of the earth and the universe . Their knowledge was vast and their belief systems deep rooted in the earth . These ancestors are still here within us . And is it any surprise we feel call of Gaia .
As above so below as without so within .
This beautiful poppet .
Influenced by the tree structure , its canopy , trunk and roots .
She’s all green with a tiny streak of deep blue . Her upper body is the canopy of a tree , all connected woven and tied with plaits and leaves . Her skirt is flowing like roots reaching into the earth . I have woven a twisted brown cord belt , branch like I have kept the ends long and flowing . I include a lovely card .
She measures 30 cm hair to skirt . She will be sent in a box carefully wrapped with tissue .
