Isis Goddess Mini Prints, Egyptian Art, Set of 3 (A6)

PrintsOfEgypt

Seller's description

The originals of these paintings are around 3,000 years old, painted on the walls of Egyptian tombs or temples. The reproductions you see here were copied faithfully by artists who accompanied several expeditions to Egypt between 1820 and 1840. Their facsimiles became beautiful engravings in books published not long after by Jean-François Champollion, Émille Prisse d’Avennes and Ippolito Rosellini.

These are all portrayals of the goddess Isis, greatest of Egypt’s female gods and - in many ways - greater than most of the male gods also. Her magic was considered to be the most powerful, based on the legend where she brought her husband and brother Osiris back to life after he was foully murdered by his envious brother Set. Their son was Horus.

The prints are fascinating in that each has a different artistic style. In two them Isis wears the ‘throne’ hieroglyph that makes up her name ‘aset.’ In the other, she wears the cow horns encircling the disk of the sun, like the goddess Hathor. In fact, the attributes of the two goddesses were often blended over time.

The hieroglyphs in the print where she holds her hand up to the ‘wadjet’ eye of Horus and the ‘shen’ ring of eternal protection identify her as ‘Isis, Great Mother Goddess, Lady of the Sky, Mistress of all the Gods.’

About the prints: Size is A6 which is 105 x 148 mm or 4.1 x 5.8 inches. These are professionally reproduced to the highest standards. First, any damage or staining is carefully retouched and colours restored to their original freshness. These particular prints are on 230 gsm textured art card with a lovely texture.
