Signed by the famous artist, Claudio Jimenez of LIma, Peru. His work has been exhibited all over the world including the Smithsonian, the Santa Fe Folk Art Museum and the San Francisco Folk Art Museum. Google him, find out more and see other pics!
He is the son of Florentino Jimenez Toma and comes from a famous family of third and fourth generation retablo makers, with origins in the Andean region of Ayacucho. At the age of 15 Claudio won two national competitions in folk art and has become an internationally renowned maker of retablos and figures.

This is what I found most interesting about him! His work is very detailed and he uses everyday items from his region to create his works, like boiled potato, peach and agave juice, gypsum, huamanga stone, yucca paste flour, various grains and most interestingly paint brushes made from the hairs of the family cat and even cactus needles to paint the tiniest of details.

Side Kick Story: This is another piece from my Religious Mexican Folk art collection. I used it mainly when I had an art alter shrine area that was titled, "3 Buck Jesus". I had a large leaf where everything was removed from it but the veins and painted on top was Jesus or Christopher Columbus, it was difficult to discern, but I think it was Jesus because it was from the Philippines and I got it at Goodwill for 3 bucks. Unfortunately, that was ruined in storage, but this piece lives on and by a living famous artist too! Who knew?
I'm not sure if this piece is from the 80s or 90s, but it was a gift from another artist family who painted little scenes and times of their life on beaver sticks.
