Wood is pine and it is sanded and stained using ecospaint stain and finished with a ecospaint varnish to protect from warping. ecospaint is a water based, odorless, environmentally safe paint, stain and varnish company out of Spartanburg NC. So when your item(s) arrives there is no smelly stain odor to fill your room. Varnish is a satin finish so has a subtle sheen while still keeping its natural wood look.
