How are the natural items obtained and are they ethically sourced?

Natural items, ( ie; bones, teeth ) are always by-products, meaning nothing is EVER killed for the sole purpose of using it in our jewelry and accessories. When mammals are farmed for their meat, to make extra money and avoid waste, we are sold teeth, bones and claws. Every part is used!

Vintage faux pearls vs. contemporary faux pearls.

Delicate, hollow glass beads were filled with a slurry of material derived from fish scales and gelatin. This coated the interior face of a hollow bead creating a pearlescent effect. This curious technique was developed by a 17th century French rosary maker. Platelet-like guanine crystals which give fish scales, and the pigment found on these beads, their iridescent appearance, were used to coat the core of the bead in a similar process that he used in the 17th century. Costume jewelry companies from the 1880's to the 1960’s, used glass beads, then coated the surface with an adhesive paste made with iridescent North Atlantic fish scales and oil to make the surface look like a genuine natural pearl. 30 dippings produce these elegant pearls.

Australian IMPORT RULES

Animal horns, teeth or bones are allowed into Australia if they are clean and free from contamination with seed, soil and animal or plant debris. If contamination is found on the items they will be treated, exported or destroyed at the importer’s expense. Animal horns or bones may be subject to control under the CITES. Items known to be or considered to be covered by CITES will be referred to the Department of Home Affairs on arrival in Australia. **All of Necromance’s natural items are clean and free from afore mentioned debris. None are on the CITES list** Still, there is that one clause: "If contamination is found, they will be treated, exported or destroyed at the importer’s expense." Please note, it is up to customs in every case.

If you are drilling through teeth, bone, antler or jet, a high speed Dremel tool can be used. I recommend using a small drill bit, 2mm or smaller, which is designed to drill or cut wood. All of these materials are easily burned, so pause after drilling into it for a quarter inch. I wait a minute or two to allow the material to cool down. If you get the material too hot, it will discolor or even crack the piece! Slow and steady.

Custom human tooth order

A custom order would only incorporate your tooth/teeth in the same condition it is sent to me, and only into one of my existing designs. Most designs with hanging teeth are acceptable. Custom orders on teeth involve GLUING ONLY. If the tooth has a root for me to glue a cap on, that is no problem. I am sorry but I DO NOT do custom orders involving cutting teeth due to the high risk of me breaking them! ***NO rings can be custom made.*** Teeth are very brittle and the enamel can easily be cracked, breaking the whole tooth during the cutting, cleaning and polishing. I take the chance ones I own, not my precious customer’s teeth ! ! Custom orders are not returnable.

Snake bone provenance

Venomous snakes are farmed and used in research facilities to gain poison antidotes. Some snakes are killed because they are pests, killing poultry livestock on farms, diminishing the farmers inventory. The large boa constrictors are sold in the pet industry where some die of natural deaths or freeze on their way to their destination pet store. Either way, no snake is ever harmed for the purpose of selling in our store! Snake skins, bones and meat are all harvested as to not waste these, in my opinion, magnificent reptiles!
