Seller's description

Black plum (lat. Syzygium cumini) is found in India and other tropical and sub-tropical regions of the world. The fruit, from which the dye is made, is rich in glycoside jambolin, anthocyanins, gallic acid, tannins, and various minerals with medicinal properties. One of the many healing properties of Black plum is its antimicrobial activity which can be transferred on textile fibers during the plant dyeing process.

Latin name: Syzygium cumini, Malabar plum
Other names: Jambolan fruit, Java plum, Jamun fruit
Colors: beige, brown, grey
Note: fibers could be dyed in beige color using black plum and then overdyed with various reds for rich burgundy shades. Also, it can be overdyed with indigo to achieve teal, sea blue or peacock colors

Dyeing:

- Use 20-50 % WOF for protein fibers such as wool or silk. You can use more for darker, deeper shades
- Heat plant powder for 1-2 hours, keep the temperature at 70 and then let it cool.
- Strain the dye bath and add vet pre-mordanted fibers. Heat to 50-70 C.
- Final colors will depend on various things, such as temperature, mordant, pH of the water, and many others, so I always recommend experimenting with various mordants and additives, such as alkalines and acids :)

Quantity:

- 50 g / 1.75 oz
- 100 g / 3,5 oz
- 200 g / 7 oz
