This design has been optimized for a CNC router using an 1/8" endmill. The entire lantern can be cut from plywood. Or the graphics could be used with the popular cedar fence picket method of building a lantern. The design also works with laser cutting machines.

No gluing is required for assembly so these can easily be disassembled and stored flat.

There are twelve different graphics: Joy, Santa's face, wreath, stocking, snowman face, snowman with hat, tree, star, present, gingerbread man, candy cane, & sleigh.

All of the samples shown are cut from 5mm poplar plywood. The cutouts were covered with vellum to diffuse the light. Color was added by coloring the inside surface of the vellum with felt markers.

The finished dimensions are: 6.77" tall(5.72" without the hanger) and 5.25" wide.

A complete lantern just barely fits on one 17" x 11" piece of wood. The largest part is about 6" x 5" so this will fit on smaller machines like a K40 or Piranha.

Due to the required slot widths a 3/32" or smaller endmill must be used to cut the design for 3mm thick material.
