Intricate, sentimental or possibly memorial brooch crafted in a 9 karat yellow gold.
Brooch has an Oriental feel to it's design, quite ornamental and of fair size.
Raised, oval center has a faceted, deep red ruby and two split natural pearls, all bead set in an engraved star (rays) patterns.
Two frames with plain bands and dotted edges enrich the oval. Lower band is imprinted 9 and 375 for gold content.
Outer frame is three dimensional with engraved, molded and applied beaded ornamentation. It has nicely flowing design in matte finish with polished accents.
Shaped, textured rim at the edge has gold dots applied for extra effect.
Brooch has a quite large, oval compartment at the back with tightly woven blond hair under clear foil cover.
Plaited hair are in a super fine, delicate, vertical, uniformed line- pattern.
Brooch has a tubular hinge, C-catch on a soft soldier pad, that looks like an old re-installment and a large loop for a ribbon or a chain.
On the underside brooch is stamped 9 .375 anchor for Birmingham assay office and a date letter for year 1905.
Brooch weights 5.83 grams and it is in a good shape with some wear to the back and some minute patination.
