Cimaruta Amulet, Italian Folk Magic Good Luck Charm, Silvertone Zinc Alloy Pendant

Item highlights

  • Materials: zinc alloy

Seller's description

A Cimaruta is an Italian folk charm whose origins are rooted in old pagan religions in Italy. It is associated with folk magic and witchcraft.

Material: zinc alloy
Size: 30 mm by 34 mm (1.18 inches x 1.33 inches) including bail

Double sided, so both sides are the same, just facing different ways. It has a built in sturdy bail so it can go straight on a chain.

The pendant is fairly flat, except for the part with the bail.

In Neopolitan Italian, the name translates as sprig of rue (cima di ruta). It features a sprig of rue, which has long been a protective herb, divided into three branches to honour the goddess Diana. The other symbols that show up on cimaruta vary.

This one includes a rooster, known as a guardian; a key that represents the goddess Hecate; the moon which represents Diana; a heart which some think is a newer Catholic addition ('heart of Jesus') but was also found on Roman folk charms. The cimaruta is an ancient protective charm that may have Etruscan and Phoenician roots.

The detail is quite good. You can see the eye on the bird which is actually really cute! The moon has a face.

Although made of base metal, sometimes they can tarnish in humid conditions, so it is best stored in an airtight box or bag when not in use for long periods of time.

Comes in an organza bag.

Looks great Love it Fast shipping

“I love it! Looks exactly like the picture, has a good weight to it, not too flimsy or easily breakable. So far it’s been good for everyday wear. I wear my jewelry in the shower, and it hasn’t turned or tarnished in the week I’ve been wearing it so far. Might need to be worn on a thicker and shorter chain, especially if you run the risk of getting it caught or have little ones that like to pull and grab.”
