A fascinating Victorian longuard chain, made from wicker!

I can't fathom the amount of work that went into this piece - every link perfectly formed from extremely fine hairs of wicker grasswork: woven in place one by one to interlink as a round belcher chain.

Measuring 48" long, each link is 5mm diameter, and it's fitted with its original high quality white metal dog clip fastener. It dates to around 1880 - mid Victorian period - and is in astounding original condition, with one very old string repair. It's also surprisingly light due to the material used, so is extremely easy to wear. It weighs just 6.5 grams in total.
