This hand hooked carpet is probably from the 1930s, give or take a decade. The colors are bright and happy and appealing and the carpet has a very nice symmetrical design, possibly inspired by mission style windows based on the border framing. I think it's neat how the rectangular borders create a layered look, almost like a deep picture frame. I think if you frame this and hang it on a gallery wall, it could be a witty alternative to traditional framed artwork. The carpet measures a versatile compact size, about 38" by 28 1/2", and the floor tiles behind the rug are 12" x 12" so you can get a sense of scale. It is hand made and one of a kind. The carpet is in fair condition, as it has several loose hooks and one slitted hole near the perimeter as you can see in photos 5 and 7. The last three photos are of the back of the rug, and you can see an old whip stitch repair on the back around where the slitted hole is. The carpet has the kind of wear you'd expect from something many decades old, especially along the perimeter. I am a smoke-free and pet-free home, and the carpet has no smells and no stains.
