Rules About Making Last Names in Plural

• Apostrophes imply possession, which isn’t what you’re trying to do. You’re simply naming them in the plural.

• These rules mean you should write out any last name in full and simply tack on an s at the end. For example, the last name Smith should be “The Smiths” or the last name Garcia would be “The Garcias”.

• **Please also be advised that using an apostrophe BEFORE tacking on the s is NOT grammatically correct as it is showing possession. For example, the last name “Miller” should NOT be “Miller’s” but rather “Millers”. We will correct grammatical errors involving the apostrophe after the s, due to a long history of customers requesting redos once they have realized the mistake.

Exceptions

• If the name ends in s, z, ch, or sh, add es or an apostrophe at the end. That means the Morris family becomes The Morrises, or The Morris’ , the French family becomes the Frenches, the Hernandez family becomes the Hernandezes.

• If the name ends in x, add es—unless the x is silent. So the Felix family becomes the Felixes, and the Bordeaux family becomes the Bordeauxs.

If you cannot make up your mind, no worries, you can always NOT add the “The” and just simply engrave their last name by itself with no plural tense (it will still look AWESOME)!!
