I measure my items at the point which they fasten, snap to snap. If you are concerned about the fit, take a tape measure and measure where it will sit on your neck. No tape measure? Use a piece of string and measure it against a ruler.
The measurements are taken from snap to snap.

Men:
If you have a size 15" neck then an ascot of 17" will fit comfortably. If you are wearing it over a shirt, add 1.5 inches. This gives room for a shirt and won't be tight around the neck.

Women:
If you want to wear an ascot like a choker then you will need one 1.5" longer than your neck size. If you want it well away from the neck, then add 3 or more inches.
My average ascots measure around 19.5" - 20.5" These will fit most women comfortably.

As with any necktie, they will be dry clean only.
