The James Webb Space Telescope is an amazing feat of engineering and will open up the skies for astronomers and physicists in a way never before experienced. Celebrate this milestone of space science with a cookie cutter shaped liked the JWST mirror.

With collaboration from NASA, the ESA and CSA, the James Webb Space Telescope has a 6.5m (21ft) diameter mirror -- nearly 6x larger than the Hubble! The JWST will be stationed at the Sun-Earth Lagrange point, approximately 1,500,000 km away from the Earth and will be able to see light emitted only 100,000 years after the Big Bang. It also has a five-layer sunshield, with each layer being as thin as a human hair and 14m x 21m in area - incredible! Also amazing is that the whole thing folds up to fit into the nosecone of a conventional rocket and then will unfold with incredible precision into its final form.

Full disclosure, it's sometimes tricky to release the cookie from the small cutter - use a lot of flour on the cutter and have a blunt chopstick handy to push it out. It's much easier with the larger cutter.

Each cookie cutter is made to order from Food Safe PLA. This material is a plant-based biopolymer made from 100% renewable resources.

Wonderful! With this cookie cutter, I made delicious cookies, about 9 cm. wide, and each of the 18 little hexagons is clearly marked. The cutter can be lightly floured, and the centre is easy to poke out before baking. The mirror hexagons on the James Webb space telescope are covered with gold, so I used turmeric to make yellow cookies (which happen to be vegan, with maple syrup, though vegan is space is probably not a thing).
