Is BioThane® chew proof?

No, BioThane® is very strong but it is not chew proof. A determined dog will be able to damage it or even chew all the way through it.

BioThane® is the brand name of all coated webbing products made by BioThane Coated Webbing Corp. It consists of a polyester webbing with a PVC coating that makes it more durable, waterproof, and easy to clean than traditional nylon webbing. I use standard thickness Beta® 520 series BioThane® for all my products, which has a thickness of approximately 0.1". It is a softer variety of BioThane® with a matte finish.

Is BioThane® made in the USA?

Yes, all BioThane® is manufactured in their plant in North Ridgeville, Ohio.

Will Flea/Tick Collars Damage BioThane®?

Flea and tick collars worn next to BioThane® collars can potentially cause cracking issues with the BioThane®. For this reason, a BioThane® collar is not recommended if also using a flea or tick collar.

I like to use Clorox type wipes to clean the BioThane®. The collars can also be cleaned with warm water and mild soap. Rinse collar after swimming in water with chemicals or salt water and allow collar to completely dry.

Will these collars rust?

It is possible for these collars to rust. The collars with stainless steel hardware should hold up best in a water environment, but for any of the hardware options, it is recommended that the collars be rinsed after swimming in water with chemicals or salt water and allowed to completely dry. Following this advice, I have had many customers who have had no issues with these collars for their water dogs.

Accessorize your dog with this handmade BioThane® collar available in three widths. It includes a stainless steel buckle and d-ring, two keeper options to prevent the strap from sticking out (either made of BioThane® or stainless steel), and your choice of 50 vibrant colors of BioThane® webbing. BioThane® is a flexible, durable, easy-to-clean alternative to leather. Each collar has holes placed 1/2” apart and a triangular pointed end for a finished look.

Please refer to the diagram in the photos for how these collars are sized. For the best fit for a full-grown dog, select the size that is centered around your dog’s neck size. For example, if your dog’s neck size is 18 inches, the 16-20 inch collar will be the best fit. If your puppy is still growing, select the size that allows room to grow.

Note on Stainless Steel Hardware: The buckles and d-rings are all made with stainless steel. The rivets are made of nickel over brass (which match the stainless steel in color) because brass is a better material for double-cap tubular rivets.
