This vase is part of my "Living Geometry" series. A single repeated image can be seen if viewed closely. The image on this piece was inspired by roots and branches.

I sanded, carved, and painted the vessel with terra sigillata slip. The pot is polished with a cloth and burnished to a sheen with a smooth stone shortly after the slip (paint) is applied. Over 30 hours went into the painting and burnishing, alone.

The 4th picture shows off the smoking effect that I apply to all my pottery after firing. The result is a striking swirl of purples and reds.

Every unique slip color was formulated by my grandmother. This piece is painted with Yellow Iron (dark orange), Rutile (off white), and Black.
