Antique Chinese Jewelry Box: Wooden Chest with Jade & Brass, 1960s

It is a chest with hinged lid, made of dark reddish wood with and embossed brass and jade decorations.

In the central part of the top lid is inlaid a round jade medallion* handcrafted with golden ornaments on both sides.

The box closes with a padlock and inside there are two compartments to keep the jewels, on the left one for the rings and another bigger one on the right side to keep larger size pieces.

Both the compartments and the inside of the lid are lined with quilted red satin fabric with floral print.

The clasp hardware, hinges and corner pieces at the four corners of the box are ornamented with detailed brass carved flowers and leaves.

Manufactured in the 1960's in Shanghai, China, has its original padlock.
I found it without a key, although luckily I was able to find one that does it's same function.

This jewelry box is an heirloom piece with a lovely patina that, in my opinion, should be preserved and that is why I am delivering it clean but unpolished.

I do not notice any noticeable scuffs or scratches despite being an antique item and the inner linings are in perfect condition, with no signs of wear or tears in the silk.

Truly, a special object of ancient Asian art.

* Jade stone has the ideal hardness to be worked into jewelry and its colors vary from light to dark green, but can also be other colors such as white, gray and purple. I think this is very pale green jade but I am not a gemstone expert.

Green jade is related to the heart chakra, love and harmony. It is considered a mineral that emits calm and provides cleansing and protection.
