That being said, it's super soft and looks great, so if you don't mind paying extra, let me know. A local shop has just started to carry it.

A note about materials. There are pros and cons for wool, wool blends and acrylics.

Acrylics are super soft, wool-free alternatives for those of you, like me, with wool allergies. Knit using 100% Swiss certified safe acrylic, which is machine washable.

Wool is a beautiful natural fiber that can be irritating for some folks. I use highland soft wool when I can source it for reasonable prices. My preference however is nearby wool, which has a lower impact on the planet. This wool is very traditional and makes great tams! Any wool is prone to moth damage, which requires storage using cedar chips or lavender to keep your tam lasting for years to come.

Wool blends are a good compromise between the two, however if you’re allergic to wool it’s probably still not for you. More affordable than pure wool, these blends are supposedly washable on a gentle setting (and in a protective laundry bag), however if the water is too warm the wool will shrink.

Note that to preserve stitches, on all tams I recommend hand washing and laying flat to dry.
