DIGITAL .SVG FILE AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR CREATING RECESSED CUTOUT TO INSTALL BOTTLE OPENER INSERT
This is a digital file - not a physical product!
************
NOTE to VETRIC VCARVE v10 users:
The .crv, Vetric VCarve format included is for Version 11. Unfortunately there is no way for me to save as an older version of VCarve. If you are using VCarve verion 10 or lower, the .crv file will not import. Instead, you'd have to import the included SVG/DXF vector files, and add your toolpaths. However, I include a PDF guide with detailed toolpath suggestions! It'll just be that extra step of copying the information in the PDF guide into toolpaths.
************
This .SVG is an optimized file for cutting out the pockets (ideally, with a CNC) for which the bottle-opener-insert hardware can be flush-mounted. This .SVG is intentionally not an exact replica (i.e. not the exact same size) of the bottle-opener-insert itself
-------------------------------------------
WHAT IS INCLUDED?
- .SVG file
- .DXF file
- Vetric VCarve file
- .C2D file (Carbide Create file) - **updated Oct 2022 to include files for both Carbide Create v6 and v7**
- Detailed document with full toolpath reccomendations (starting depths, max depths, and stepovers) for optimal carving depths
-------------------------------------------
THE BACKGROUND:
Yes... yes.. I know... these bottle-opener-inserts can be flush-mounted with a few different sized forestner bits, a little chisel work, and some trial and error. You don't NEED a CNC to cut out the pockets for them. It can be done by hand..... but... WHY!?!?
I was recently trying to make a batch of 10 small wooden gifts, each with a bottle opener on the back. After ordering a pack of the bottle opener insert hardware listed below, I found myself frusturated because I didn't have a 1.56" forestner bit... and the next size up (1.75") left far too much slop. And I didn't want to go buy another bit just for this project.
And lastly, I could see the marks from the forestner bit after installing the insert. Yes, it's probably something nobody else woud've noticed. But I just wasn't pleased with the overall look.
So…. this felt like a perfect job for the robot to deal. Created the file, ran several prototypes, modified and tweaked to optimize, and now have perfected the cutout for these bottle opener inserts. More details below on how it's been perfected.

WHICH BOTTLE OPENER INSERTS IS THIS FILE DESIGNED FOR?
File is designed for the common 1.56” – 1.58” diameter bottle opener inserts found on Amazon. Opener inserts with similar mouth-
opening will work as well. A few examples and links provided below:

SVG, VCarve, and Carbide Create FILE INFO:
- Provides snug fit while still allowing for 0.01” tolerance variations amongst bottle opener insert pieces (found during testing that the opener inserts can have a 0.005” – 0.010” tolerance variation)
- Cutout beneath the mouth of the opener has been designed for optimal function, and for optimal appearance (it intentionally does not match the exact shape of the mouth opening!)
- PLEASE NOTE: this is not just an .SVG of the bottle opener insert. This .SVG has been designed for the CUTOUT in which the bottle opener insert will sit in your material

TOOLPATH INSTRUCTIONS INCLUDED:
- All toolpaths designed for 1/4" endmill
- Flush recess of bottle opener insert into material, allowing for tolerances of mounting screw heads
- Tested optimal depth of pocket beneath mouth of bottle opener insert for best function (this took 4 or 5 prototypes and
testing on new bottles before I got it dialed in… which I wasn’t entirely upset about...)
- Toolpath instructions (GCode file available upon request) also include optional “finishing” pass for the mouth of the bottle
opener. While not necessary for function, I think it looks 10x more clean. Even though it’s an area that most will never pay
attention to, it only adds about 20 seconds to the whole carve!

HELPFUL TIPS:
- if importing using the SVG or DXF files, please ALWAYS double-check the size of the vectors. Different design softwares may inappropriately scale the vectors upon import. Instructions included on SVG and DXF files.
