Can I request a custom map or a different size?

Yes. Custom maps of any region, other sizes and alternative colourways are available. Message me here on Etsy with what you have in mind.

What if my order arrives damaged or is returned to sender?

Damaged: message me on Etsy with a photo and I will make it right: a replacement at no cost to you, print or frame. Please report it within 30 days of delivery. Returned to sender: check the address you entered at checkout and message me. If it was wrong, I can quote you for reshipping. If it was correct and delivery still failed, tell me and I will sort it out.

How long does shipping take, and will I pay customs?

Every map is made to order. Print Only orders are dispatched in 3 to 5 business days, framed orders take a few days longer. The estimated arrival window for your address is shown on the listing before you buy, and tracking is sent when it ships. Print Only ships rolled in a rigid protective tube. US and EU orders, print or framed, are printed and shipped inside your own region, so there is nothing to pay at the door. Orders outside the US and EU may be subject to local import fees.

What paper and ink do you use?

Museum grade giclee print on premium matte paper with pigment ink. Colours sit rich, deep and glare free. A small number of listings also offer a choice between Matte Poster Paper (192 gsm) and Fine Art Matte Paper (300 gsm, slightly textured).

What are the frame options?

Most maps come as Print Only or framed in Black, White, Light Wood, Vintage Bronze or Retro Gold. A framed map has the same museum grade print inside, a plexiglass front, a backing board and hanging hardware, and arrives fully assembled, ready to hang. The largest sizes ship as Print Only. Room and frame photos are digital mockups made to show scale and colour. The frame you receive is a real moulding in the colour you choose, and wood grain and tone vary a little from piece to piece.

Highlights

Designed by Kuzeyoku
Materials: Archival paper, paper

The Spezial Karte von Afrika of 1885, restored sheet by sheet and rebuilt over modern elevation data. A continent as Europe drew it, standing on the terrain as it actually is.

An 1885 sheet of Africa is a document as much as a map, and restoring one means deciding what to repair and what to leave alone. I corrected the colour, closed the damage and recovered the linework, then rebuilt the continent underneath from modern elevation data. I am a geomorphologist and cartographer with a PhD in earth science, and every map in this shop is rendered by me.

BEFORE YOU ORDER
• This is a flat 2D print on paper. The 3D depth you see comes from light and shadow painted into the artwork itself, nothing on the paper is raised or embossed
• One paper, chosen so there is nothing to get wrong: premium matte, pigment ink
• Print Only ships rolled in a rigid protective tube. Framed maps arrive assembled and ready to hang
• Place names in the shaded and mountainous areas are set in fine cartographic type. Up close on the larger sizes you can pick them out one by one; from across the room they settle into texture. If the lettering matters to you, choose the larger size.
• Room and frame photos are digital mockups made to show scale and colour. The frame you receive is a real moulding in the colour you choose, and wood grain and tone vary a little from piece to piece
• Printed colours sit a touch deeper and quieter than a backlit screen
• Please check your address and phone number at checkout
• If anything arrives damaged, message me first and I will make it right

A framed map is ready to hang the moment you unbox it. For prints, unroll it and let it rest face up for a few hours before framing. Custom maps of any region and alternative colourways are available, just message me.

I ordered this map in the 36"x36". The map quality of paper is fantastic. The topographical images do look stunning, however, the up-scaling from source image to make a larger print causes the wording to become blurry and the small labels around the continent are sacrificed and unreadable. Overall, I'd still recommend this item, with the caviat to not order in the largest size.

The seller's map are not readable, and he does not mention it in the description. He does not offer returns so you will have to go threw the Esty Customer Support system to resolve an issue with him. Overall, it was stressful.
