This is a download of visualization files for Pot Bench bundles. That is, it includes the basic Pot Bench, whose Making Guide shows a step-by-step building process (as well as three Construction Drawings). Also, the download includes Pot Bench Extras which takes the basic Pot Bench into an upgraded version of the growing platform. Finally, we have included a one-page PDF which explains more about SketchUp and provides links to videos of the two 3D models in action.
We used a 3D Sketchup model to design the basic Pot Bench, and then we cloned the Sketchup file for creating the enhanced Extras offering. For a gardener to use either of the SKP files (compressed inside a Zip file) you will need to download the software and become familiar with SketchUp by Trimble. This app is super-simple to learn and has many versions available, including a free web-based one (for both computer and phone-type devices).
Because 3D visuals really do help makers figure things out as they plan and build, we have exported large video files out of the SketchUp app so those wanting to use 3D visuals can do so without having to fuss with the 3D software itself. In this download therefore, for each SketchUp file, we have included links to YouTube videos. These video links are URLs in QR codes which lead to an "unlisted" YouTube channel where purchasers can have access to Pot Bench 3D visuals from any device that can see YouTube. This gives you the ability to meet with your landscaper over coffee, run 3D videos on your tablet, and start-and-stop the model to discuss details.
Native 3D files are powerful tools if you want to maintain your yard and garden architecture over time. Aside from discreet yard-furniture like Pot Benches, you can draw a 3D model of your whole "dream yard", for example. Modeling a long-range vision for the ultimate garden. Now this is a project worthy of the slight learning curve it might require. A good project for the winter?
