Seller's description

A lovely antique French gilt framed arched top wall mirror with original mirror plate, dating from the late C19th.

This stunning French mirror has its original verre eglomise mirror plate with just the right amount of old foxing and wear. The surface of the glass has ripples and inclusions. The black border is applied in the verre eglomise method, from the rear and really adds drama to the piece.

It sits in a beautifully detailed swept gilt gesso moulded frame, with rounded top mounts. There has been some old damage to the scrolled foliate mouldings to both the top right and bottom left and a small loss bottom left. The damage has been well touched in with a good match to the gold finish, which has a lovely deep, aged colour. It displays really well.

The back has traces of the original backing paper over the original back boards r and two hanging eyes, but does need a new cord.

Beautifully detailed and with a fabulous timeworn patina, this would look great above a fireplace or chest of drawers.

Height 28.75" (73cm)

Width 23" (59cm)

Mirror Plate 45cm wide by 58cm tall.

Collection possible from Leamington Spa (Warks), Draycott (Glos).
