At Sigel House Pottery, each piece of stoneware pottery is meticulously crafted using natural materials. Stoneware clay is known for its exceptional characteristics when fired to maturity (2167 degrees F) including full vitrification, non-porosity, durability, practicality, and suitability for functional ware. Pottery that is thrown a bit thicker has the added advantage of retaining the temperature of its contents longer and being more robust, making it ideal for everyday use. It is both dishwasher and microwave safe.
Sigel House Pottery produces lead-free, food-safe pottery featuring unique and varied designs in a range of sizes. Every piece is sold individually, is available for immediate shipment (other than custom or personalized items), and packaged using environmentally friendly materials. The clay utilized in the production process is reclaimed and recycled and all components are manufactured within the USA. Free shipping is offered on orders totaling $35.00 or more within the continental USA.
Sigel House Pottery does not use vinyl, wraps, or non-fired decals in its production and commercially manufactured, mass-produced pottery is not purchased or sold as handmade. Instead, each piece of pottery is individually handcrafted using wheel throwing techniques.
POTTERY FACTS:
- Capacity Perspective: Your pottery's volume is designed for practical use. Imagine pouring a 12-ounce beverage into your 12 to 14-ounce mug and still being able to carry it without spills – like a measuring cup, providing that perfect balance.
- Shrinkage Dynamics: Clay shrinks between 12 and 15% throughout the pottery-making process. From drying to bisque firing and the final glaze firing, variations in shrinkage contribute to unique dimensions in each piece.
- Firing Process: Sigel House Pottery uses clays that fire to either 2167 or 2232 degrees Fahrenheit over approximately 36 hours. Opening the kiln is like unwrapping gifts on Christmas morning – always a delightful surprise, some more pleasing than others.
- Functionality and Durability: Crafted for daily use, Sigel House Pottery ensures longevity. With years of constant usage in our homes, these functional pieces stand the test of time. However, keep in mind that dishwasher detergents may be abrasive, and while microwave-safe, prolonged microwaving may affect the pottery's lifespan.
