This is not simply an overlay you lay on the board and try to straighten it each time you move a game piece. The overlay comes with a clip, that holds it in place firmly enough that it does not move around. You don't have to remove the overlay each time you play, because you can store it together inside the box.

The overlay has spaces for the ocean hexes, so that they stay in formation. To not lose the sight of Mars, the shape of the planet is drawn with copper color.

Since the original markers were too big and also not very thematic, this set includes a miniature termometer and tree marker to track temperature and oxygen. They are very cute, easy to pick up, and will also remind you that planting trees will increase your oxygen level :)
