This handmade dementia lap blanket has been designed to help soothe and relax people with dementia. Perfect gift for Mother's Day! It provides lots of different colours, textures and age appropriate attachments to explore, providing stimulation, helping to keep hands and minds busy. It has been shown that providing appropriate activities and stimulation for people with dementia helps to reduce agitation and anxiety and gives the person a sense of purpose. Repetitive movements, such as moving the buckle up and down, provide a sense of achievement bringing satisfaction and contentment.

The blanket is constructed in the style of a patchwork quilt. It is made from a lovely mix of fabrics which are chosen for their colour, print and texture.

Item was described as a blanket but as shown in the pics is the size of a cushion and very lightweight. I decided to unpick one side of the “blanket” and inserted a cushion (which fitted perfectly) then sowed it back. The addition of the cushion made it more stable and easier for my father in law to play with without it falling on the floor, particularly when he tried to open the zip on the “blanket” It’s bright and interactive and the addition of a plastic sleeve to add a personalised photo is a good idea
