Sew up a 14 1/2" by 40 1/2" Stars and Stripes Table Runner to get your table ready for the Fourth of July, Memorial Day, Labor Day or just to show everyone your patriotism! This is a quick and easy to follow digital pattern with plenty of clear photographs and detailed instructions so that a novice or veteran seamstress will be able to achieve a beautiful runner in an afternoon. It will be perfect for your dining room table all summer long or to decorate a picnic table for an outdoor party.

This design uses simple piecing methods to create 5 white stars on a red and blue striped background. The runner is accented with a narrow binding to accent the piecing. Tips are provided throughout the pattern to ensure your points and seams connect perfectly.

Fabric requirements: 1/2 yard of red fabric, 1/2 yard of white fabric (also used for binding), 1/4 yard of blue fabric (NOT a fat quarter), 1/2 yard of fabric for backing, and 1/2 yard of fusible fleece. If you would prefer to accent your runner with a different binding, an additional 1/4 yard of fabric (NOT a fat quarter) is necessary.

This pattern was my first attempt at a quilting project. I’m a pretty confident beginner but getting into quilting is a lot different. I wish this pattern had more detailed instructions to help me understand the process, like the binding. I had to look up a separate tutorial to know how to do it. One step of the instructions says to cut the stripe blocks to 8.5 and I blindly followed that without doubling checking and it made all my stripes smaller than the star blocks! That was very frustrating! But I still managed to make it fit together. It turned out ok, next time I’ll know better.
