Are there different grades of shungite?

Yes, shungite is classified into three types based on its carbon content: Type I: Elite (Noble) Shungite: Shiny, silvery-black, with 90-98% carbon. Rare (less than 1% of deposits), lightweight, and fragile, it’s hand-extracted and left in its natural shape. Ideal for water purification, but costly and not suitable for shaping. Type II: Petrovski Shungite: Semi-dull black, with 70-80% carbon. This type is rare. Type III: Black (Regular) Shungite: Matte or slightly lustrous when polished, with 30-60% carbon. The most abundant type it’s shaped into objects like spheres, pyramids, and plates.

What is the black dust on my shungite, and is it harmful?

Wipe it off with a dry cloth or damp paper towel if it transfers to skin or clothes. Avoid soaking polished shungite in water to preserve its polished surface—just a quick wipe is enough!

You can cleanse your shungite using your favorite method, like smudging, sunlight, or moonlight. For best results, place your shungite in direct sunlight for several hours at least every 30 days to cleanse and recharge its energy.
