This is a lovely 40s dusty rose silk nightgown. The nightgown has a deep V-neckline that has fun lacing detail at the point of the V. It has slightly puffed capped sleeves and is empire waisted. The skirt of the nightgown is a simple and biased cut falling to the ankles. The nightgown is also made of contrasting silks with most of the gown being made of a matte silk. The sleeves, the neckline, that continues to the underbust, and the side panels have a satin finish. The nightgown has been altered to make it larger at some point and was cleverly done. I am pretty sure they used the waist ties to make panels. They inserted them underneath the arms and down the sides. The nightgown does also have a tag from Barbizon and is marked a size 38, but with the alterations that were added, it is a larger size now.
Condition:
The nightgown is in good condition overall. The only thing to note is that there are some small spots of staining. The most noticeable is the dark pen-like marks on the front. There are also some smaller ones scattered about the skirt but they are really hard to see as they are just slightly darker than the fabric. The nightgown is still wearable and has been professionally hand laundered and is ready to wear.
