Silver Horse Spirit Animal Necklace – Handcrafted Ceramic Pendant
A symbol of strength, freedom, and ancient wisdom.

I shaped this horse pendant from black clay and gave it a warm silver-coloured finish. Above the horse, there is a handcrafted black clay bead, painted to match. The smaller beads are small matte glass beads.
The black cotton cord is adjustable with sliding knots.

The Horse in Myth and Burial Traditions
In Finnish folklore, the wise sage Väinämöinen rode a mythical horse born in Hiisi, a sacred grove, burial ground, or underworld. It was said to be forged of stone and iron:

"From Hiisi came the horse’s birth,
from the mountain, the noble foal.
In the house of hearth,
in the forge of the Iron-Bearded.
Its head was made of stone,
its hooves from the solid rock,
its legs were wrought of iron,
its back was forged of steel."

Throughout the North, the horse was a sacred animal, a guide between worlds. Horses were sacrificed, buried with humans, and believed to show the way to the realm of the dead. In Finland, traces of horse gear and teeth found in Iron Age graves may reflect funeral rites and the deep spiritual bond between humans and horses.
