Porcelain Plate
Embossed Trim, Blue-Purple-Green
A beautifully decorated plate from Steingut-Fabrik und Kunsttöpferei F.A. Mehlem (Bonn-Poppelsdorf, Germany), mark used between 1885 and 1920, when the company was bought by Villeroy & Boch (see the "porcelain marks and more" website for a full description).
This gorgeous plate features colorful pinkish-orange poppies with green leaves, on a scalloped shape with beaded green rim, with green and faint purple highlights (not as bright and shiny as the camera flash makes it appear). The plate measures 8.5 inches wide across the rim.
This plate is in good condition. There are no chips, cracks, flakes, or hairlines, although there is overall crazing (see closeup photos). There are a couple of small scratches to the blue-green surface, visible in the closeup photos. There are also some little spots or drips of color in the dark green border, which I believe are original to manufacture (see closeup photo of the largest flower).
The plate is fuzzily marked on the base with a green mark with stylized 'F-A-M' in a tower over 'BONN' over 'FRANZ ANT. MEHLEM' with 'GERMANY', as used from 1885 to 1920.
