I'm happy to present you the updated beetle pattern, which is one of my most popular patterns.

Since the first version was created a long time ago, I decided to recrochet it in a larger size in order to make clearer photos.

Also, I changed the description of the process a bit to make it easier, but the result is the same.

For those who are not ready yet to try on their skills in Tunisian crochet technique, I added elytra to the pattern using the usual crochet technique.

And as a bonus, I gave the option of decorating the beetle's back with flowers.

The new version is clearer and better designed.

According to this pattern, you can create both small beetles and large ones - see examples in the photo.

Using this pattern, you can crochet a beautiful beetle in any color! Such a beetle can be an impressive brooch accessory or complement your other crochet project.


MATERIALS AND TOOLS

Yarn and crochet hook.
You can choose the thickness and color of the yarn to your taste. The hook for the selected yarn should provide a good crocheting density so that dense stuffing can be done.

The beetle can be crocheted entirely from yarn of the same color or use different colors for the body, head, mantle, elytra.

To make the beetle miniature and make it into a brooch, choose a small hook (up to 1 mm) and thin yarn (for example, "iris").



The composition of the thread can be anything if you plan to tie the wings with a wire frame. If the wings are without a frame, use cotton or wool yarn (natural fibers) for them. Such wings will need to be impregnated with a varnish solution to maintain their shape, and artificial fibers do not absorb the solution well.



When using a hook up to 1 mm in size, the body size of the beetle will be about 5 - 5.5 cm in length. The large beetle in the photo is crocheted with 1.75 mm crochet hook from woolen yarn with a thickness of 300m / 100g, the size of its body is 8.5 cm.


Toy stuffing.
Small beads for the eyes. Choose the size based on the size of your work. For sewing on small beads, I use monofilament and a beading needle.
A needle for assembling with an eye through which the crocheting thread passes.
Wire for the frame in the antennae and legs (I used 0.8 mm thick galvanized steel wire). Tools for working with wire - wire cutters, pliers.
If you will crochet the wings with a frame, you will need a thin bead wire with a thickness of 0.25 to 0.6 mm.

Fine dark thread for wrapping legs and antennae. The thread should be about 1/3 thinner than the one you are crocheting with.
Polyurethane based glue for wrapping the wire and gluing legs and antennae.
To make a beetle-brooch, you will need a sew-on brooch clasp
You can decorate the beetle to your taste - use embroidery with beads or threads, ribbons, tinting.
For tinting, use dry pastel (colors depend on the color of the beetle). To fix the tint, a solution of acrylic lacquer with water is used in a ratio of approximately 1 to 5. PVA glue can be used instead of lacquer, but the lacquer fixes the tint more reliably. Tinting and varnish are applied with a brush.
The wings of the beetle should be soaked with the same solution, if you do not crochet them with a wire frame.
