"The Sunflower" is an original mixed media painting. The artwork has several layers for texture - tissue paper, heavy matte medium, thick acrylic impasto paint, and lastly, in the center of the sunflower there is a collage of different colors of paper to give the flower more dimension and texture. The collage (see last photo) is actually a collection of torn paper prints of my different artworks including, Carnival in Crimson, This is Home, Beale Magnolia, Broken, Forbidden, February Tree, and As Long As We Are Together. When looking at the painting, close up, you can see some of the different images. To blend the paint, I used a paint brush. I used my fingers to blend the center part of the flower. A painting knife was used to lay on the thick impasto paint to the background. The details were drawn with charcoal and blended. Finally, a satin gloss is added to finish the painting.

The work will be fabulous in any room and will definitely be a conversation starter. Please note that the painting is much more vibrant in person. If you would like more photos, please let me know.
